Jagdalpur, April 16, 2024: In a major operation security forces today shot dead at least 29 Maoists in the jungle of Kanker district in Chhattisgarh, a top police officer said.
“Bodies of 29 Maoists have been recovered by the security forces after an encounter in Kanker district,” Bastar Inspector General of Police (IGP) P Sunder Raj said.
Maoists were killed in a gun battle with a joint police party of Border Security Forces and the Chhattisgarh Police, Sunder Raj said.
“Three security forces were also injured in that incident,” he said adding the injured are airlifted for better treatment.
“Among the killed are three top local commanders also,” Anti-Naxal operation head of the Chhattisgarh Vivekanand told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com at Raipur.
On specific information a joint police party of Chhattisgarh police and BSF were on a search operation in the jungle of Chhotebetiya police station area when they had a face to face with the Maoists, Vivekanand said.
The incident took place in Kalpar Jungle of Chhotebetiya police station of Kanker District.
The number of casualties could go up also as forces are in the Kalpar jungle, where the gun battle took place, and conducting search operations, Vivekanand said.
The security forces have also seized a total of 12 sophisticated weapons, explosives, arms and ammunitions and other materials after the gun battle.
On April 03 last 13 Maoists were killed in an encounter in Korcholi forest of Bijapur district of the same southern part of Chhattisgarh in Bastar region.
