Raipur, December 28, 2008: At least nine districts of Chhattisgarh are affected by the Filaria disease and a special campaign was today launched by the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh for its eradication from the state.
At least 13,000 people from Raipur, Durg, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Jashpur and Sarguja districts are affected by this Filaria disease, the Chief Minister was informed in a function here.
From 80 countries about 12 crore people are affected by this disease and in India 3.1 crore people are affected and in Chhattisgarh to eradicate it completely 3.53 crore D E C tablets are being distributed in those nine districts from today after the Chief Minister launched the campaign on the National Filaria day today.
The Chief Minister and his wife also took the D E C Tablets and appealed to the people to take the tablets to make Chhattisgarh a healthy state.
Singh also asked the Health Department to carry out a Pulse Polio type campaign against Filaria.
