Raipur, June 29, 2010: At least 26 security personnel were massacred today and several policemen sustained gun shut injuring in an ambush and subsequent gun battle with the Maoists in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
“At least 26 security forces were killed and several injured in Dhodai area of Narayanpur District, about 310 km from Raipur,” Chief of Anti-naxal Operation Ramniwas told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com here.
In that incident at least seven of the forces have sustained gunshot injuries and two of them have been airlifted to Jagdalpur, he said.
At least 67 security forces had gone on a road opening operation (ROP) between Narayanpur and Orchha area of Maoists dominated Narayanpur district, when over 100 rebels ambushed them and opened indiscriminate firing, Police and CRPF officials said.
It was a fierce gun battle, which lasted for over three hours and the Maoists also must have suffered casualties, IG Special Intelligence Branch Rajesh Mishra said.
Meanwhile, Chief of the Unified Command of Chhattisgarh and the Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh has condemned the incident and in an emergency meeting personally reviewed the rescue operation with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and other top civil and police officials, an official spokesman said.
