Raipur, October 15, 2011: In a significant development, Chhattisgarh Government has decided to take away the strategic Airport of Jagdalpur from the Defence Ministry and give that to the National Airport Authority of India, officials said today.
On April 21, 1992 the Jagdalpur Airport was given on lease to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and on principle it had been decided by the state government to hand it over to National Airport Authority of India for opening of private air passenger traffic, state government officials told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
A high level joint team of officials on October 10 last inspected the Jagdalpur Airport for construction of necessary infrastructure like Air Traffic Control Tower, Hanger among others, they said.
Among the delegation were State Civil Aviation Secretary R S Vishwakarma and Director Aviation Subodh Kumar Singh, Controller of Mana Airport Anil Roy, the officials said.
Meanwhile, the State government has appointed an advisor and sought a report with in four months how to improve the infrastructure of Jagdalpur Airport as per the direction of the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) for passenger traffic.
