New Delhi, November 24, 2012: India was facing a huge shortage of over 3400 posts of civil servants in 2012, official sources said today.
Currently 1777 posts of IAS, 1255 posts of IPS and 378 posts of IFS are laying vacant, official sources said.
Giving details of the current vacancies of civil servants as of first of January 2012, the sources said, against the total authorization strength of 6154 posts in the Indian Administrative Services, only 4377 officers are functioning.
In the Indian Police Service 3475 officers are on the service against the authorized strengthen of 4730 posts and similarly in the Indian Forest Services 2700 officers are functioning against the strength of 3078, the sources said.
To deal with the situation, the Government of India has increased the annual intake of IAS and IPS officers under Direct Recruitment Quota, they said.
Further, a third mode of recruitment, namely the Limited Competitive Examination has also been introduced for recruitment into IPS, they added.
