New Delhi, October 17, 2022: After changes in toll tax policy, the total toll tax collection of the country has increased to currently Rs 40 thousand crore and in the next two years would see an impressive jump.
The income from tolls have come to Rs 40 thousand crore at present and it will rise to Rs 1 lakh 40 thousand crores by the end of 2024, according to Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The Centre is also coming up with innovative ideas, not only to increase the investment in to the infrastructure, but also to ease traffic on the busy roads and reduce travel times.
Centre is planning to take over the State Highways with high traffic density from the states and develop them as 4 or 6 lane highways and then recover investments through toll collection within 12-13 years, the minister said.
The financial markets need to come up with innovative models to fund India’s Infrastructure growth, he said.
Centre is currently inviting investments in the PPP model, Gadkari said yesterday addressing the12th International Convention of Association of the National Exchanges Members of India.
