Raipur, January 31, 2024: Income tax sleuths early morning today raided the premises of former Food Minister of Chhattisgarh and top Congress leader Amarjeet Bhagat.
A team from the Income Tax (IT) department raided in Kenabandh residence in Ambikapur (Sarguja district) and Raipur premises of Amarjeet Bhagat, who was Congress MLA for 4 times since 2008 and a powerful Food Minister in the previous Bhupesh Baghel government of Congress party.
Bhagat had spent crores of rupees in the construction of the huge house at Raipur, where search operations are going on presently.
BJP had earlier alleged involvement of Bhagat in PDS scam worth billion rupees.
Various agencies of the Central government were also enquiring about the irregularities in distribution of rice of the targeted Public Distribution System (PDS) meant for poor people of Chhattisgarh, when Bhagat was the Food Minister.
Bhagat is a close confidant of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and for the last five years had openly opposed his party colleague and former Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo. Hailing from Sarguja district, both Bhagat and Singh Deo lost the 2023 Assembly election.
Raids are also undergoing in the locations of builders and other people in Raipur, Durg and other districts, sources said.
