Raipur, December 13, 2008: After having failed to take any decision on the issue of Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, the 38 newly elect MLAs authorised AICC President Sonia Gandhi to select their Leader.
The first meeting of the CLP today took a one line decision authorising Gandhi to finalise the name for the CLP leader, who would become the Leader of Opposition in the 90 member state assembly and enjoy the status of a cabinet Minister.
The one line decision was taken in a charged atmosphere as no one was ready to give space to the others during the discussion.
When one group was projecting former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi as the CLP leader, his arch rivals are projecting Ram Pukar Singh and in between the name of Ravindra Choubey had also been surfaced.
Before that the central observers Janardan Dwivedi, B K Hari Prasad and state in charge V Narayan Samy faced hostile party workers when they came here to know the views of the legislatures.
Some Congress workers, opposed to Jogi camp, also used abusive language against the central leaders, when BJP leaders were closely watching the incident while sitting in the treasury bench.
