New Delhi, May 30, 2024: Just ahead of the last phase of general election 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go on a meditation exercise from today at the famous Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
Elaborate security arrangement have been put in place for the nearly two days meditation of the Prime Minister, sources said adding 2000 police personnel will stand guard during his stay, even as the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard would also maintain tight vigil.
All arrangements have been completed for Modi’s 45-hour stay at the mid-sea Rock Memorial, a monument built in tribute to Swami Vivekananda.
Modi will meditate from the evening of May 30 to the evening of June 1 at Dhyan Mandapam, the place where Vivekananda — a spiritual icon admired by Modi — is believed to have had a divine vision about ‘Bharat Mata’, the reports said.
In 2019 also PM Modi had undertaken a similar exercise in a Kedarnath cave after the election campaign.
Terming this as political and to influenc the voters of the final phase of election as he would be on meditation during silence period ahead of the June 1 election, Congress and DMK have expressed reservation and moved the Election Commission against the spiritual sojourn of Modi.
Main Opposition Congress alleged yesterday that Modi was trying to “circumvent” the silence period restrictions with his meditation trip and urged the Election Commission to ensure it is not aired by the media as it violates the model code of conduct.
The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu has also petitioned the District Collector against the PM’s event, citing that the model code of conduct is in force.
The PM is also likely to offer prayers at the famous Sri Bhagavathy Amman temple at Kanyakumari. Ahead of his departure on June 1, Modi is likely to visit the Thiruvalluvar statue, a towering 133 feet sculpture erected for the Tamil bard. The complex is located adjacent to the rock memorial.
