     Raipur, July 13, 2025: Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister-Public Works Arun Sao, expressing displeasure over the maintenance and repair works of roads and bridges in the state, directed to make all roads and bridges pothole-free by December next.

    Sao, emphasizing on quality and durable repair, asked to regularly monitor the roads and bridges and repair them immediately as needed.

      He asked the officials to inspect all the bridges in the state within a month and take necessary steps for repair and maintenance.

     Sao today reviewed the works of the Public Works Department as well as the condition of roads and bridges during the rainy season and the works being done for their repair.

     He also took information about the repair of roads under performance guarantee. In the meeting, the action plan for monitoring and necessary measures to prevent the roads from getting blocked due to excessive rains in the rainy season and to prevent untoward incidents was also discussed.

      In the review meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister directed all the field officers to strictly follow the instructions of the government. He said that no leniency will be shown to those who disobey the order, strict action will be ensured against them as per the rules.

      In the meeting, he directed the officials to send the DPR of the works proposed in the budget of the current financial year 2025-26 soon. Instructing to start the works that have received administrative approval without delay, he said that the Public Works Department will do works worth more than eight thousand crore rupees this year.

      Sao directed the officials not to compromise on quality and time limit in the construction works under any circumstances. Ensure that all the work is done as per the prescribed standards. Get quality work done by the contractors within the stipulated time as per the terms of the tender. Keep an eye on each and every work and review the progress regularly.

      He also asked to expedite the work of land acquisition for the construction of new roads.

     Sao directed the officials in the review meeting to increase administrative and technical efficiency and increase the speed of work. He said that there is no shortage of funds for development and construction works. The government will give as much amount as the budget is demanded.

     He directed the field officers to take necessary action to stop illegal mining around the bridges with the cooperation of their district administration.

      In the meeting, Secretary of Public Works Department Dr. Kamalpreet Singh instructed to be fully prepared for the works to be started after the rains. He asked to carefully decide where and what kind of repairs are to be done to make 100 per cent use of the allocated amount.

     He suggested to include older roads in the renewal plan. Dr. Singh also instructed to seriously implement the standards of road safety during the construction of roads. He informed that a budget of Rs 60 crore has been kept for road safety related works in the current financial year. The PWD Secretary instructed to get approval for these works by 15th August.

     Along with Deputy Chief Minister Sao and Kamalpreet Singh, Chief Engineer VK Bhatpahari, Joint Secretary SN Srivastava and all Chief Engineers also attended the meeting from Nirman Bhawan. Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers from all divisions and districts joined the meeting virtually.
