Raipur, April 15, 2026: The death toll in the Vedanta private power plant in Chhattisgarh has reached 19, while 17 are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, a senior police officer said today.
“The death toll in yesterday Power plant blast has reached 19 whereas 17 are undergoing treatments in various hospitals” Sakti District Superintendent of Police Praful Thakur told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
The incident took place in Singhitarai area of Sakti district yesterday.
On the spot five workers were killed and 14 died in various hospitals whereas 17 are undergoing treatment in various hospitals with serious burnt injuries as a boiler of the Vedanta Power Plant was exploded yesterday, the police officer said.
It seems the incident took place due to the negligence of the power plant, Chhattisgarh Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan told reporters after the incident.
The Sakti district administration has been asked to probe the incident thoroughly as no one will be spared, who are responsible for the incident, the Minister said.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has declared financial assistance to the affected families and asked the District Collector Sakti for a thorough probe.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery of the injured in the Sakti power plant incident.
