Raipur, September 11, 2025: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said today that under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, a target has been set to install solar panels on the roofs of 1 lakh 30 thousand houses in the state by March 2027, but the government’s effort is to go beyond this and take it to 5 lakh roofs.
Sai said that under this scheme, huge subsidy is being given to the consumers. Central assistance ranging from Rs 30 thousand to Rs 78 thousand is being given directly in the bank account for installing solar plants ranging from 1 kilowatt to 3 kilowatt capacity.
Along with this, the Chhattisgarh government is also giving additional subsidy. Due to this, consumers are getting subsidy up to 75 per cent of the total cost, he said.
Addressing the 97th National Conference “Forum of Regulators” organised in Nava Raipur, the Chief Minister said that Chhattisgarh is one of the leading states in the country in terms of power generation.

Sai said that today Chhattisgarh is celebrating its silver jubilee year of establishment. In these 25 years, state’s production capacity has reached about 30,000 MW. With the participation of state sector, private sector and central sector, today more than 30 thousand MW of electricity is being produced in Chhattisgarh.
Recently they have signed MoUs for setting up power plants with a capacity of more than 32 thousand MW. These include thermal power, pump storage, nuclear, battery storage and solar energy projects. “Our target is to become a state producing more than 60 thousand MW of electricity in the coming years,” the Chief Minister told the gathering.
Chhattisgarh is far ahead of the country in terms of per capita electricity consumption. The consumption here is 2,211 units, while in India this average is only 1,255 units, Sai said.
Chhattisgarh is also producing more electricity than its requirement and is making a significant contribution to the development of the country, he said.
Chhattisgarh is providing electricity to the domestic consumers as well as neighboring states, Sai said.

Two days ago, in the cabinet meeting, they had approved the amendment in the policy to be implemented till 2030 to promote solar energy. Under this, renewable energy projects have been given priority in the industrial policy, the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the chairpersons, officials and experts of the Electricity Regulatory Commissions from different states of the country and said that the deep discussions that have taken place for the progress of the energy sector of the country will give long-term benefits to all the states, including the consumers.
He also expressed special gratitude for choosing Chhattisgarh for the event.

On this occasion, Chairman of Central Electricity Regulatory Commission Jishnu Barua, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission Hemant Verma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Subodh Kumar Singh, Energy Secretary Rohit Yadav, other members of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission and members from other states were present.
