     Raipur, December 15, 2025: Chhattisgarh Assembly today paid rich tributes to former Lok Sabha Speaker and former Union Minister Shivraj Patil.

     Patil passed away on December 12 in Latur, Maharashtra.

     Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, Leader of the Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant, ministers, and members observed a moment of silence in the House to pay their respects.

     Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, while recalling the long political career of the late Patil, said that the Patil was a member of the Lok Sabha for seven consecutive terms. He held ministerial responsibilities in many important ministries. He made a significant contribution to the television broadcasting of parliamentary proceedings.

     Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, while recalling his tenure as a Union Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker, said that the late Patil held the important portfolio of Union Home Minister in Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government.

     At a time when enemies were constantly conspiring against the country, he discharged his duties as Home Minister with great sensitivity. Patil, who represented Latur, had a long public and political life. He provided immense help to Latur in dealing with the earthquake tragedy, Sai said.

     Leader of the Opposition Dr Charandas Mahant, while remembering Shivraj Patil’s dedicated political journey, said that his passing is very sad for all of us. He was a great expert on law and the constitution.
