4 Family Members Die in Cylinder Blast; Chief Minister Expresses Grief

Four members of a family were burnt alive today following a cylinder blast in Kumhari in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh.

     Raipur, May 12, 2026: Four members of a family were burnt alive today following a cylinder blast in Kumhari in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.

     According to preliminary reports, a short circuit in an electrical pole sparked a fire in the house; the flames subsequently spread to the kitchen, causing the gas cylinder to explode.

     The blast was so powerful that the raging flames engulfed the entire house. The family members trapped inside were unable to escape and perished in the fire.

     The deceased include two sisters, their father, and a one-and-a-half-year-old infant.

      Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of the four family members resulting from the short circuit and cylinder explosion.

     Chief Minister Sai has announced a special ex-gratia assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

     This amount will be in addition to the standard compensation of Rs 4 lakh each provided in accordance with government regulations, officials said.
