Raipur, September 14, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today took a serious view of the commuting difficulties faced by citizens due to roads under construction during the rainy season.
The Chief Minister has instructed all District Collectors to regularly monitor the condition of roads under construction in their districts, conduct on-site inspections personally when necessary, and coordinate with relevant departments and construction agencies to ensure the roads remain fit for traffic.
Sai has asked all District Collectors to exercise special vigilance regarding road safety during the rains. Immediate protective measures must be taken in areas where traffic is disrupted or there is a risk of accidents due to damaged roads, ongoing construction work, soil erosion near bridges or culverts, waterlogging, or any other reason. Arrangements for warning signs, barricading, and safe alternative traffic routes should be ensured as required, he added.
The Chief Minister has issued clear instructions that citizens should not face unnecessary commuting hassles due to poor road conditions in any area during the monsoon.
Priority must be given to essential interim repairs, such as filling potholes, leveling surfaces, and ensuring proper drainage, in areas where construction is underway or roads have been damaged by rain. Even if weather-related practical difficulties hinder permanent construction, every necessary measure must be taken to keep the road motorable, he added.
Additionally, taking cognizance of the inconvenience faced by citizens due to the poor condition of the road at Kharsia Chowk in Ambikapur city, Chief Minister Sai spoke to Sarguja District Collector Ajit Vasant over the phone to assess the situation.
Sai directed the Collector to immediately inspect the road and ensure that necessary repair work is carried out.
He instructed that large potholes at Kharsia Chowk be filled, necessary leveling be done, and drainage arrangements be rectified. He further directed that in areas with heavy traffic volume, coordination with the police and traffic departments be maintained to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement.
The Chief Minister stated that whether a road falls under the jurisdiction of the National Highways, the Public Works Department, urban local bodies, or any other agency, the district administration must ensure a prompt resolution to issues by establishing effective coordination with the concerned department.
Collectors should identify major roads with heavy traffic volume and routes currently under construction within their districts and regularly review their status, he said.
Sai directed that road construction and approved projects be expedited as soon as the monsoon season concludes. He instructed that action plans be formulated in collaboration with construction agencies to ensure that road construction and permanent repair works are completed within the stipulated timeframes while maintaining high quality.
He emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and time-bound execution of construction activities to prevent prolonged inconvenience to the public.
