     Raipur, January 11, 2010: Chhattisgarh Governor ESL Narasimhan today said in the last one decade Chhattisgarh has achieved remarkable growth and development in all sectors.

     Chhattisgarh was formed in November 2000 and today it was being counted among the developed states of the country, Governor told the Chhattisgarh Assembly on its inaugural session today.

     He also expressed the hope that the protracted problem of naxalism could be solved in this year.

     The area of cash crop was today 65 lakh hectare from 53 lakh hectare when the state was formed and the production of foodgrains, pulses and oilseeds have jumped from 58 lakh tonnes to 73 lakh tones in about a decade, Narasimhan said.

     From rehabilitation of the destitute to providing iron ore for the Bhilai Steel Plant for the next 50 years, the State government had made provisions for all sections of the society through a proper planning, he said.

     The current irrigation percentage of the state was about 31 per cent and every step was being taken to take that up to the national average of 49 per cent, the Governor said.

     On the infrastructure sector also the Raman Singh Government was doing a lot, he said.

    The 29 days session of the state Assembly was started today and would continue up to March 26.
