Raipur, January 12, 2010: Opposition Congress today attempted to move an adjournment motion on the cane charge to farmers in Dhamtari district and finally staged a noisy walkout from the Chhattisgarh Assembly.

Immediately after the Question Hour, Congress members raised the issue of brutal police action against the farmers on November 9 and urged the Chair to take the issue through an adjournment motion.

Nand Kumar Patel, Gurmukh Singh Hora and other Congress leaders said the action of police against the farmers were unwarranted as the farmers were on a peaceful demonstration demanding the BJP government to fulfill its promises of free electricity and bonus on purchase of paddy to farmers.

The Opposition even preferred not to hear the appeal of the Speaker Dharam Lal Kaushik and raised slogans, because of which the house was adjourned for five minutes.

When the house re-assembled the issue was again raised by the Congress members and Leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey even said the Agriculture Minister should give his statement on the matter and the issue needed to be discussed in the house in details through the adjournment motion.

Finally the Congress members staged a walk out after having failed to achieve success in their demands.
