Raipur, January 29, 2009: Chief Electoral Officer of Chhattisgarh Dr Alok Shukla today met the Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen and requested to relieve him from the state as soon as possible.

Before the Chief Secretary could go for a scheduled meeting, Shukla met him at his office and requested him to relieve from the post of Chief Electoral Officer of the state as per the direction of the Election Commission, officials told CgTopNews.com.

Shukla has been appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner of India at New Delhi.

The Election Commission of India had yesterday written a letter to the Chief Secretary and asked that Shukla “may be relieved of the charges of the Chief Electoral Officer of Chhattisgarh with immediate effect”.

It also said Joint Chief Electoral Officer Gaurav Dwivedi may be assigned the routine works of the office of the CEO, according to the letter.

The Commission had also asked the state Government to provide a panel of three IAS officers along with their ACR dossiers to select a suitable officer for the appointment of the next CEO of the state, a top official said.

Earlier the Appointments Committee of Cabinet of the Government of India had cleared the posting of the 1986 batch IAS officer Shukla and appointed him in place of R Bhattacharya as the Deputy Election Commissioner of India.
