       Korba, August 11, 2009: BALCO has decided to invest Rs 125 crore this financial year for community development, the top most official of the company said today.

     Gunjan Gupta, the Chief Executive Officer and the full time Director of BALCO, said the aluminium major believed in the principle of the Group Director Anil Agrawal, that the company should pay back to the society, what it had got through the entrepreneurship.

     Working on that principle, the Vedanta Group has decided to spend Rs 125 crore in this 2009-2010 year for the community development, Gupta said.

     Currently BALCO was engaged in health and education sectors among others for the welfare of the people and on cancer treatment also the Vedanta group was coming up with a sophisticated health care centre at the capital city.

      The company had organised cancer detection camps in Korba and Kawardha districts and a large section of the society had been benefitted from that, Gupta said.

     Continuing with its practice, this year also the BALCO is going for a large scale plantation programme in and around the BALCO Nagar with the help of house wives, commonmen, students and activists from non-government organisations, he said.

     The plantation programme would benefit the people in preserving environment and water, Gupta said.

     Vedanta group is the largest producer of metals in the world and the company has been engaged in changing the life of the people living around its mining and plant areas, the CEO said.
