Raipur, April 23, 2026: In light of critical assignments such as ‘Sushasan Tihar’ (Good Governance Festival) and the Census, the Government of Chhattisgarh has issued directives imposing a ban on any government employee remaining absent from the office without prior approval of leave.

The General Administration Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh has issued a circular—taking into consideration the significance of tasks like ‘Sushasan Tihar’ and the Census—directing that no government employee shall proceed on leave before such leave has been duly sanctioned by the competent authority.

The government has stated that remaining absent from the office without prior approval will be deemed as voluntary absence and may be construed as a “break in service” under the applicable service rules.

It shall be mandatory for all government employees—even in cases of casual leave—to provide full intimation via telephone or digital means whenever possible; this intimation must be formally confirmed in writing immediately upon their return to the office, the state government said today.

In instances involving leave—specifically for extended periods (such as Earned Leave, etc.)—it shall be mandatory for the concerned government employee to duly hand over the charge of their duties to another officer or staff member prior to proceeding on leave.

The State Government has issued a letter to all government departments, the Chairman of the Revenue Board (Chhattisgarh, Bilaspur), all Heads of Departments, all Divisional Commissioners, and the Collectors of all districts, directing that strict compliance with these government instructions be ensured.
