Raipur, April 30, 2012: A high level meeting today met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and discussed in detailed various steps taken by the Chhattisgarh government to secure the release of the kidnapped Sukma district Collector Alex V F Paul Menon V.
The meeting of the Cabinet Sub Committee discussed in details about the steps taken by the state government to secure the safe release of Menon, who was kidnapped by Maoists when he was on a tour of the Majhipara area in Sukma District on April 21 during Gram Suraj Abhiyan, official sources said.
Menon was confronted by the Maoists guerrilla at Majhipara and after exchange of fire, the 2006-batch IAS was kidnapped by the rebels after killing both his body guards.
The Cabinet sub committee meeting was attended among others by both the government interlocutors Nirmala Buch and Suyogya Kumar Misra, they added.
Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar, Water Resources Minister Ram Vichar Netam, Tribal Welfare Minister Kedar Kashyap, Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary Home N K Aswal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister N Baijendra Kumar, Director General of Police Anil M Navaney and Secretary to the Chief Minister Aman Singh had also participated in that meeting.
