Raipur, November 18, 2024: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested former Chairman of Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CG PSC) Taman Singh Sonwani and a businessman in connection with the alleged multi-crore recruitment scam under the Bhupesh Baghel government.

Former Chhattisgarh PSC Chairman Taman Singh Sonwani and former Director of Bajarang Power and Ispat Limited Shravan Kumar were arrested today in relation to the CGPSC recruitment scam, CBI sources said.

Sonwani is a close confidant of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
When Baghel was the Chief Minister it was alleged that huge amount were paid to get selected into the post of Deputy Collector, Deputy SP and other posts under the state Public Service Commission.
BJP raised the issue during the 2023 state Assembly election and after coming to power Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai handed over the case to CBI for further probe.
It was alleged that between 2020 and 2022 close relatives of various top government officials, politicians and others were selected into PSC examination adopting wrong practices.
