     Bilaspur, March 20, 2010: Chief Justice of Supreme Court K G Balakrishnan today said the judiciary must have the confidence of the people.

     It was essential for the judiciary to have the confidence of the people, the Chief Justice of India said here addressing a function.

     He was here in the city to inaugurate the portal of the State Bar Council and addressed a seminar on environment.

     The Chief Justice also stressed for protection and conservation of environment while carrying out developmental activities.

    The judiciary was not against development or that of infrastructure but that should not be done at the cost of environment, he said.

    Industries are set up for making profit, but they should also perform their social responsibility, the CJI said.

    The Judiciary was sensitive towards environmental protection and right to live, he added.

     Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, also addressing the gathering, said his Government wanted development of the state and the nation along with protection of the environment, its rivers, forest and wild animals also.
