Raipur, November 13, 2012: Diwali, one of the important festivals of Chhattisgarh, was celebrated here in traditional fervour in the entire state.
Since there was expectation of a bumper crop, the celebration was also in its full colour.
Both sale and purchase were in full swing, since people wanted to buy new utensils, clothes and even vehicles during this festival, depending upon their economic conditions.
However, by afternoon roads in various cities wore a deserted look as people wanted to celebrate Diwali with the entire family at their native places.
Governor Shekhar Dutt, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Union Minister of State of Agriculture and the lone Congress Lok Sabha MP from the state Charan Das Mahant, PCC President Nand Kumar Patel and Leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ravindra Choubey have wished the people prosperity and a safe Diwali.
“We will purchase every grain of the farmers,” Chief Minister Singh also assured the ryots on this occasion as the paddy procurement was started on November 1, last.
