Raipur, January 28, 2009: The Election Commission of India today asked the Chhattisgarh Government to relieve its state Chief Electoral Officer Dr Alok Shukla with immediate effect.
The Commission has desired that Shukla “may be relieved of the charges of the Chief Electoral Officer of Chhattisgarh with immediate effect,” a letter from the Chief Election Commission at New Delhi sent to the Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen said today.
For running of the state election office, the Commission said the routine works of the office of the CEO may be assigned to Joint Chief Electoral Officer Gaurav Dwivedi, according to the letter.
Earlier the Appointments Committee of Cabinet of the Government of India had cleared the posting of the 1986 batch IAS officer Shukla and posted him in place of R Bhattacharya as the Deputy Election Commissioner of India.
