Raipur, April 25, 2012: Chhattisgarh government today appealed to the Maoists to extend the dead line set for fulfilling the conditions to release the Sukma District Collector Alex V F Paul Menon V, who was abducted by the ultras on April 21 from a village meeting.
The Cabinet Sub Committee on Internal Security met here tonight under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and reviewed the entire matter, including the possible talk between the interlocutors from both the sides from tomorrow.
For the first time both the government interlocutors Nirmala Buch and Suyogya Kumar Misra had also attended the meeting, official sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
The meeting was informed that the interlocutors from the Maoists side are yet to reach here and in that condition it was not possible to meet the deadline of April 25, as set by the Maoists.
Hence the meeting appealed to the Maoists to extend the deadline, the sources said adding it was also appealed that the next deadline should be fixed in such a way that the meeting could yield some positive result.
Besides government interlocutors Buch and Misra, Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar, Water Resources Minister Ram Vichar Netam, Tribal Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap, State Planning Board Vice Chairman Shivraj Singh, Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary Home N K Aswal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister N Baijendra Kumar, Secretary Aman Singh, Director General of Police Anil M Navaney, Chief of Anti-naxal operation Ram Niwas, state Intelligence Chief Mukesh Gupta among others were present in the meeting.
When Menon was on a tour of the Majhipara area in Sukma District on April 21 during Gram Suraj Abhiyan, he was confronted by the Maoists guerrilla and after exchange of fire, the civil servant was kidnapped by Maoists after killing both his body guards.
