     Raipur, September 2, 2009: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today said the state government was serious in its action towards combating drought in the state and all the field officials have been directed to provide sufficient employment to the needy people here.

     After a video conference with the Commissioners, Collectors and Zilla Panchayat Secretaries, the Chief Minister today told reporters at the state secretariat that the state government was taking several steps to combat the situation.

     The field officials have been asked to open sufficient employment generated works in the drought-hit areas of the state, Singh said adding today through the video conference the employment generated works, public distribution system, medical insurance cover to poor and distribution of school uniforms to the students were monitored.

     In the last one week, the state had received a good amount of rainfall and that had solved the need of water in the paddy field to a large extent, said the Chief Minister adding the state was still monitoring the matter on day to day basis.
