Industries Minister Dewangan Directs Registration of FIR on Vedanta Power Plant Accident

     Raipur, April 16, 2026: Chhattisgarh Minister for Commerce, Industries, Labour, Public Undertakings, and Excise Lakhanlal Dewangan today inspected the site of the accident that occurred on April 14 at the Vedanta Power Plant located in Singhitrai village, Dabhra block, in the Sakti district.

     Additionally, Minister Dewangan held a meeting at Singhitrai itself with Collector Amrit Vikas Topno, Superintendent of Police Praful Thakur, and officials from the Vedanta management.

      He issued directives to conduct a thorough investigation into the technical aspects of the incident, in accordance with labour laws, and to register an FIR against those found responsible.

     The death toll from the accident at the Vedanta Power Plant has risen to 19, while 17 people are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

      Expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased workers, the Minister wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

     During the meeting, Head of Operations at Vedanta Sushil Behera provided details regarding the incident.

    Meanwhile, boiler expert Gunjan Shukla briefed the attendees on the preliminary probable causes of the accident.

     Minister Dewangan directed the Sakti Collector to ensure that the investigation is conducted with the utmost vigilance and meticulousness, and to ensure that affected families receive facilities such as compensation, employment, and—in cases resulting in disability due to the accident—a pension.

     He also sought information regarding the workers’ ESIC (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) and PF (Provident Fund) details.

     The Minister categorically stated that those responsible would not be spared under any circumstances. He noted that both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister have announced compensation for the deceased and the injured, and that the Chief Minister is personally and continuously monitoring the situation.

Industries Minister Meets Injured Workers Undergoing Treatment at Hospitals

     Industries Minister Dewangan met with the workers injured in the Vedanta Power Plant accident who are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the Raigarh district.

     He visited the Medical College Hospital, Apex Hospital, Metro Hospital, and Jindal-Fortis Hospital to inquire about the well-being of the injured, spoke with their family members, and assured them that all necessary assistance would be provided by the government.

     The Minister directed the hospital administrations to ensure the best possible and continuous medical care for the injured patients. He assured the workers that, in addition to the company’s compensation, the financial assistance announced by the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister would also be provided.      He stated that the treatment would continue uninterrupted until they are fully recovered.
