     New Delhi, September 23, 2023: Under the Chairmanship of former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind the high-level committee constituted to examine the issues relating to holding of simultaneous elections in the country held its preliminary meeting here today.

    After a details deliberation the Committee will make recommendations relating to holding of simultaneous elections in the country.

     Besides former President Kovind, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, former Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Chairman, 15th Finance Commission N K Singh, former Secretary General, Lok Sabha Dr Subhash C Kashyap and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay Kothari had attended the meeting.

     Senior Advocate Harish Salve joined the meeting virtually. However, Leader of single largest party in Opposition, Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was not present in the meeting.

     Welcoming the Members of the High-Level Committee, its Chairman Ram Nath Kovind outlined the agenda of the meeting.  

     Outlining the modalities of working of the Committee, it decided to invite recognised National Political Parties, Political Parties having Government in States, Political Parties having their representatives in Parliament, other recognised State Political Parties for seeking suggestions and viewpoints on the issue of simultaneous elections in the country.

     In addition, the Committee will also invite Law Commission of India to make their suggestions and viewpoints on the issue of simultaneous elections in the country.
