Korba, September 18, 2011: Several migratory birds have been killed in lightening in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, officials said.
Travelling thousand kilometers Siberian birds have been a frequent visitor to Kanki village, about 16 km from the district headquarters of Korba.
However, lightening coupled with heavy rainfall had killed huge number of such migratory birds, who have built their nests in the river bank trees of the area.
Due to lightening at least 80 such Siberian birds were killed and 120 partially burnt on September 14, said DFO Rajesh Nanhoria.
Since the Siberian birds are coming under Schedule four of the Forest Department, a formal post mortem was conducted, the DFO said.
