Bilaspur, February 16, 2016: An under-construction building in the High Court premises of Bilaspur district collapsed today, a police officer said.
Several people were trapped under debris after the under construction building collapsed, police said.
“Using gas cutter, we have rescued one person from the debris,” Chakarbhata police station officer Baijnath Roy said.
About nine people were injured in the incident, said Roy, who was supervising the rescue operation.
The incident took place when roof work was under progress in the building in the High Court premises, he said.
It was a 100 feet by 50 feet pillar-less structure, which collapsed this afternoon, he said.
“One person has been rescued using gas cutter and are looking for two more, who were working in that structure,” said the police officer.
“We fear two more people are trapped in the debris,” he said.
After the rescue operation we will investigate how and why the building collapsed and whether adequate safety measures were taken during the construction work or not, the officer said.
