Jagdalpur, January 24, 2010: A group of armed Maoists have blown up a portion of the telephone building of the BSNL causing damage to the tele-communication network of the Narayanpur district in Chhattisgarh.
The incident assumed significance also because it took place on the district headquarters of Narayanpur yesterday, when security had been stepped up ahead of the Republic Day celebration.
A large number of armed Maoists stormed the area and after planting bombs detonated the BSNL building, damaging its tower and many other equipments, police said.
Because of the blast, the communication network has been affected, they said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today came down heavily for the damage caused to the critical infrastructure by the Maoists in the state.
Every government properties are meant for the people and by causing damage to that the Maoists have only exposed their anti-people and anti-national mentality, said the Chief Minister.
