     Raipur, November 28, 2009: Maoists have clubbed to death a Deputy Ranger of Chhattisgarh in its diamond deposit area of Deobhog in Raipur District.

    On information of illegal tree-felling when led by Deputy Ranger Marg Tandi, a forest party of five personnel was in the Indagaon forest area of Deobhog, about 180 Km from the state capital, they were confronted by a group of Maoists.

     The Maoists assaulted two beat guards and an equal number of other forest staff and took with them the Deputy Ranger yesterday night and his body was recovered today in the forest of Deobhog police area, Deobhog Station House Officer T R Nagwanshi told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.

     The body of the Deputy Ranger was having mark of severe assault, said the police officer adding it was being send today for post mortem.

     The Maoists have also blocked many roads for the last three days of Deobhog area, which is also known for its diamond deposit, police said.

      The incident is claimed to have been committed by about ten weapon wielding Maoists at Indagaon forest of Chhattisgarh-Orissa border, about 40 km from Deobhog police station.

     The presence of Maoists in the diamond deposit area has created a ripple among the officials.

     “We need to increase the presence of police forces in the diamond belt looking into the hyper-activities of the Maoists and the state government is doing that,” said State Mining Secretary R S Vishwakarma.

     Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh recently told a press conference that about in three years time the state could reach to the level of production of diamonds from its diamond deposit area.
