Jagdalpur, February 09, 2012: In a major incident, Maoists today ambushed and killed a top Koya Commander Kartam Surya in newly created Sukma district of Chhattisgarh and injured a senior police officer among others.
Surya and another constable were killed and Additional SP D S Maravi received bullet injuries when Maoists triggered a land mine blast and opened indiscriminate firing on the police vehicle, official sources said.
The incident took place near Dewarpalli in newly created Sukma district, they said adding the vehicle survived land mine blast but raining of bullets from Maoists killed Kartam Surya, and another constable, where as four were injured. Among the injured was also a top Koya Commander Kichhe Nanda, they said.
The six member police party had gone to Dornapal as CBI was probing the incident of attack on Swami Agnivesh and from there the police party went to Polampalli. While returning back from Polampalli the incident took place, they said.
The injured are being shifted to capital for better treatment, police said.
