Raipur, June 9, 2011: Maoists raided a police camp in an early morning attack in Narayanpur district and killed five policemen.
A large number of armed Maoists raided the police camp in Jharaghati jungle area and killed five policemen, Narayanpur police sources told ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
Narayanpur District Superintendent of Police Mayank Srivastava confirming the incident said they have also lost two weapons to the Maoists.
The attack caught the policemen surprise as the incident took place about 7.30 hours this morning, they said.
After the Maoists opened indiscriminate firing, police tried to give a matching reply and in that incident one head constable and four constables were killed, they said.
This police camp, located about 26 km from the district headquarters Narayanpur, was opened two months back to combat the Maoists, police said.
It was not immediately known whether any of the Maoists were killed in that incident, the SP also said.
