Korba, January 8, 2009: Although the state Education Secretary Nand Kumar was in the media every day for quality education, but in one of the schools of Korba district of Chhattisgarh a student lost her eye sight for having failed to answer a question.
What do you call the meeting point of two rivers, asked a teacher of Saraswati Sishu Mandir in Jurali of the Home Minister Nanki Ram Kanwar’s native Korba district’s Kathghora police station area to an eight year old girl student Sweta Patel.
After the girl student failed to answer the question, the teacher Parasram Bhaina allegedly assaulted her and then pricked a pin on the eye of his student, resulting in loss of eye sight by the little girl, according to a complaint to the local police.
Kathghora Town Inspector Lalji Shukla, when contacted, said after medical examination of the girl, a case against the teacher under section 324 and 325 have been registered but the teacher is at large.
It had been a habit of the School Education Secretary Nand Kumar to remain in news giving statements that the students should not be given punishment and Chhattisgarh established a new trend also in quality education.
However, nor the Secretary, neither any of his officials had so far visited the family or the school to probe the incident.
