Raipur, April 16, 2009: The Parliamentary vote was started today in Chhattisgarh with a violent note as the Maoists have called for a poll boycott and the Election Commission lack sufficient security personnel to give a foolproof security.
The polling in Bastar and Kanker was started today at 7 AM and would continue up to 3 PM where as in the rest of the places that was started at 8 PM and would continue up to 4 PM, Election Commission sources told the ChhattisgarhTopNews.Com.
As many as 1,54,82,179 electors spread over 20,967 polling booths in 11 Lok Sabha seats of the state would decide the fate of 178 candidates.
Amid security arrangements, the Maoists have carried out at least half a dozen strikes in different places of the state and injured two policemen and a polling official, police said.
The Maoists have also attacked the Mardapal police station and Chhotebethia out post besides engaged the police parties in Gurkha, Golapalli, Sonpur and Kristaram areas, police officials said.
In Golapalli three Maoists were most likely killed in a gun battle with the Border Security Forces, they said adding more details are awaited.
