Raipur, April 22, 2025: Dr Varnika Sharma, the newly appointed Chairperson of Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission, has taken a tough stand on the prevention of child labour and has issued instructions for a comprehensive raid campaign across the state.
Dr Sharma has directed the State Labour Department, Women and Child Development Department, Collectors and Superintendents of Police of all districts to ensure well-planned and strict action against child labour based on eight points.
She has clarified that the elimination of child labour is not a one-day process, but a continuous campaign, which should be conducted continuously.
In line with the committed approach of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwada towards the protection of child rights, this initiative is being seen as a decisive step towards the elimination of child labour in the state.
Dr Sharma has directed that a seven-day statewide raid campaign should be conducted every three months starting from April 2025.
In this action, special teams will be formed with the participation of District Child Protection Unit, Police Administration and concerned police station areas.
Child labourers found during the campaign will be immediately presented before the Child Welfare Committee as required.
She also said that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued at the state and national level should be fully followed during these proceedings. Making the International Day for the Prohibition of Child Labour (12 June 2025) meaningful, a report on the status of child labour will be presented by the Labour Department before the District Collector in each district.
Keeping in mind the root causes of child labour, she has also directed that immediate employment should be provided to the families of the rescued children. For this, it has been recommended to set up a ‘single window system’ at the District Collectorate level, so that proper and prompt assistance can be given to the affected families.
