Bargarh, February 21, 2016: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for a second green revolution in India saying by 2022 the income of farmers has to be doubled.

“In 2022 India will be celebrating 75th year of Independence, and by that time we have to fulfill the dreams of the great souls of the country and we have to at least double the income of the farmers,” Prime Minister Modi told a gathering of farmers at Bargarh town bordering Chhattisgarh.

Despite abundant natural resources, including water, the farmers of states like Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Bihar, West Bangle and Assam, are reeling under poverty situation, he said.

To change the life of the farmers, he calls for the second green revolution in the country, saying “the Government of India has also drafted several schemes to improve the conditions of the farmers”.

“We need to bring changes in the Agriculture sector,” said Modi.

The Prime Minister also called upon the farmers to adopt change in crop pattern to improve productivity, saying “whether improving irrigation facilities or streamlining supply of urea, the Indian government has introduced several new schemes and farmers should take advantage of that.”

Talking about misuse of urea, Modi said “Government is promoting neem coated urea as the herbal coat of urea manure will stop its siphoning for industrial use”.
