Raigarh, September 20, 2009: Madhushila Sahu, who claimed to be an avatar of Sai Baba, and 13 others were arrested by the Raigarh police on charges of playing with the religious sentiment of the people and other non-bailable sections, police said today.
Besides Madhushila, among the 14 persons arrested were her father, brother, relatives and people who were involved in the making of a cassette, Raigarh District Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma said here.
Police has also seized the photographs of Madhushila and Sai Baba, cassettes, banners, posters, bhabhut, religious offered money of Rs 53,000 and other materials from Kharragaon.
Thousands of villagers had thronged to her place after the 12-standard passed 19-year-old Madhushila claimed she was the avatar of Sai Baba. Moved by her new avatar lakh rupees worth of offering, including coconut and ghee were contributed by innocent people.
After some advocates from Dharamjaigarh and journalists from Kharsia among others complaint, Chhal Police arrested the 14 persons under section 295 A, 419, 420 of IPC, Section 6 of Chhattisgarh Tonhi Act, Copy Right Act and other charges and the matter was under investigation, police said.
