Raipur, January 15, 2013: Apparently unique in nature, the BJP government in Chhattisgarh today launched its ambitious pilgrimage scheme after Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh flagged off a team of pilgrims to various destinations of the country.
So far Central government was sponsoring Haj and Chhattisgarh government partly paying the Mansarovar yatra but the Raman Government had decided to take older generation people to various religious destinations on government money.
Launching the scheme, the Chief Minister sent off about 1000 people from Raipur and Balodabazar districts to Sirdi, Sani Signapur and Trayambakeswar from the Raipur Railway station today.
The scheme has been sponsored by the Social Welfare Department of the state.
Several people, including Mohan Lal of Buden village in Raipur district, said for the first time they were going on a pilgrimage to such important religious destinations with the help of the government.
