Raigarh, June 21, 2011: Chhattisgarh Administration today issued show cause notice to the Jindal Steel and Power Limited after its ash pond causes huge damage in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.
After reports of leakage in Godamdipa ash pond in Kosampali village, Raigarh District Collector Amit Kataria visited the affected area and prima facie found Jindal Steel and Power Limited responsible for the situation, officials said.
“The Jindal and Steel has been issued the show cause notice by the District Collector after he found prima facie responsible for the incident,” officials said.
The District Collector has also pulled up the Jindal management and directed them to take immediate steps in checking the outflow from ash pond.
The District Collector has also constituted a committee with Executive Engineer Irrigation, Sub Divisional Officer Revenue Raigarh, and Regional Environment Authority Raigarh as its member to probe the incident.
About 80 families have been rendered homeless due to ash pond leak, they said.
