Bhilai, April 12, 2011: Four women of a family today consumed poison and died after they unsuccessfully fight for 17 years for a job on compensatory ground at the Bhilai Steel Plant.

A mother, her three daughters and a son had been locked themselves for the last five days inside their Sector 4 quarter demanding early solution to their demand for a job on compensatory ground.

They accused the flag ship company of the Steel Authority of Indian Limited, Bhilai Steel Plant management of ignoring their request for a job for the last 17 years.

After the death of their father, an employee of the Bhilai Steel Plant, Sunil Gupta said, they had been demanding a job on compensatory ground from the BSP, but the management had been adopting an adamant attitude towards their plea because of which they had decided to lock themselves inside the house for the last four days, Gupta had said yesterday.

He also threatened that the family would commit mass suicide if their demand was not met.

This morning one of the neighbours received a call from Sunil, in which he informed that the entire family had consumed poison as they had no more faith on the management of the Bhilai Steel Plant.

When he rushed to the quarters of Gupta, he saw from the window that his mother and sisters were lying on the floor, police said.

Immediately police broke open the door and shifted all the five to Sector-9 hospital where doctor declared Mohini Devi and her daughters Sheela, Shobha and Rekha dead and Sunil was admitted in the ICU.

Steel Plant authority has not yet reacted to the situation.
