Raipur, November 19, 2008: The International Cricket stadium constructed by Sports Minister Brij Mohan Agrawal in Raipur is a hallmark of the BJP government in Chhattisgarh.
Since cricket is the new religion, all wanted to get into that and as a part of that spirit the state government of Chhattisgarh constructed an international stadium at Parsada, about 22 km from the state capital on the National Highway-6.
The 60,000 capacity first ever international cricket stadium of Chhattisgarh was constructed with an estimated cost of about Rs 100 crore and inaugurated on September 11.
Spread over 50 acre lands, the stadium has eleven blocks and parking facilities for six thousand four wheelers besides separate parking for two wheelers.
Sports sector had been neglected before and after the Chhattisgarh was formed on November 1, 2000 and it took eight years for the state government to construct a modern stadium in the state.
The cricket association was also not getting recognition by the BCCI and looking into that the Raman government had decided to have a cricket stadium here.
Initially the construction was facing a lot of difficulties but it was the individual interest of the Sports Minister Brij Mohan Agrawal that the stadium was not only completed but also ready for international match and a scope gifted to the people to see games of their favourite players.
