Raipur, August 25, 2023: The Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajeev Kumar today enquired about the amount of seizure of liquor, cash and other materials, which are used to lure voters ahead of the Chhattisgarh Assembly election.
A high level team from the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, today reviewed the election preparedness of the assembly election with the district Collectors, SPs, Divisional Commissioners and Range IGs of the state.
The ECI wanted to know from the officials how much freebees, cash and liquors have been seized so far ahead of the election, sources said.
He was seems not very happy with the performance so far and said “don’t wait for the model code of conduct to be enforced to start checking for such things”.
He also asked the district administrations to remain vigilant about the liquor, cash and freebees to ensure free, fair and transparent election in Chhattisgarh, sources said.
Chhattisgarh will have election to its 90-member state assembly by this year end.
The ECI has also reviewed the process of electoral revision and stressed that with all seriousness revision of voters list be carried out vividly with every caution.
