Raipur, August 04, 2025: A complex heart surgery of a woman was successfully performed at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital under Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College located in the capital of Chhattisgarh at Raipur.

In this surgery, along with off pump beating heart coronary bypass surgery, repair of both the valves of the heart and replacement of mitral valve were also done.

A complex heart surgery of a 58-year-old woman was successfully performed in the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital here. This patient is a resident of Jevra Sirsa village of Durg district, who had been complaining of shortness of breath and chest pain for the last three years, official sources said.

Blockage was detected in the investigation. In the examination of the patient, it was revealed that the patient has 95 per cent blockage in the coronary artery and the three main valves of the heart: – mitral, aortic and tricuspid are damaged.

Official sources said that after echocardiography and coronary angiography, doctors had decided to go for surgery. In this, first off pump beating heart bypass surgery was done, in which bypass surgery of the coronary artery of the heart was done without stopping the heartbeat. After this, the heart and lungs were temporarily stopped with the help of a heart-lung machine.

During the operation, the heart chambers were opened and the mitral valve was replaced with a metallic artificial valve, the aortic valve was repaired with a special technique and the tricuspid valve was repaired by putting a ring.

Special points of the surgery

This was a high-risk surgery, because the patient’s EF (ejection fraction) was low and many other surgeries were also involved at the same time. In this bypass, arterial graft was used, which is more durable. Aortic valve repair is possible only in select medical institutions.

Officials said that after the surgery, the patient’s condition is stable and she will soon be discharged from the hospital and will return home.

Medical College Dean Dr Vivek Chaudhary and Superintendent Dr Santosh Sonkar congratulated Dr Krishnakant Sahu and his team for this successful surgery.

It is worth noting that the Heart, Chest and Vascular Surgery Department of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital is known for its continuous excellent work, innovation and service to patients.
