Raipur, December 25, 2024: Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Gurjinder Pal Singh, who is more known as G P Singh has called on the Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka at the Raj Bhavan, official sources said today.
After resuming charges the 1994 batch IPS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre G P Singh met the Governor yesterday at the Raj Bhavan, the sources said.
The IPS officer briefed the Governor about his service career, including where he was all posted, they added.
A decorated officer, Gurjinder Pal Singh was caught in a huge controversy during the previous Congress government and was accused of engaged in toppling the Bhupesh Baghel government.
During Bhupesh Baghel led Congress government on July 1, 2021, Chhattisgarh police raided his government quarter in Raipur.
It was claimed that some hand written papers were found in a drain behind the house, which indicated vengeance and hatred against the then state government. As a result, an FIR was registered against Singh for committing offence under Sections 124A & 153A of IPC.
Also alleging accumulation of disproportionate assets by Singh, an FIR was registered under Section 13(1) (b) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and during investigation, Sections 201, 467 and 471 IPC were also added.
Under Bhupesh Baghel regime, on 09.03.2023, Chhattisgarh government informed the Centre that Singh was not fit to be retained in service. Vide an order dated 20.07.2023, he was compulsorily retired from service under Rule 16(3) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
However, the IPS officer challenged this decision before the Central Administrative Tribunal. The Tribunal ruled in his favour and directed his reinstatement with all consequential benefits.
The Union Government challenged this order before the High Court, but the plea was rejected.
Meanwhile, on December 10, 2024 Singh got a huge relief from the Supreme Court as the Apex court upheld the decision of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) regarding his compulsory retirement.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti dismissed the Central Government’s petition challenging the setting aside of an order of compulsory retirement against Singh, who faced allegations of corruption, extortion and sedition.
The Apex Court passed the order in Centre’s challenge to a Delhi High Court order, whereby the decision of the CAT setting aside the compulsory retirement of the Chhattisgarh cadre IPS officer was upheld, it said.
Ultimately the state government of Chhattisgarh reinstated him this month.
