Raipur, February 13, 2010: Chhattisgarh bandh call given by ruling BJP today received a near total response in the state.
However, in many places laced with cane and party flags BJP workers were seen enforcing bandh.
BJP had given a day long shut down call protesting against the rise in prices of essential commodities, when their party government was ruling in the state.
The bandh was total and people have, through the bandh, made Congress solely responsible for the price rise, said BJP state President Vishnu Dev Sai.
Offices were closed today due to second Saturday, but educational institutes and business establishments were closed. A few buses were plying on the road where as in many places BJP workers disrupted the train services.
But both the Malls at the Raipur city were packed with visitors and the cinema halls there were over crowded and several senior government officials were seen enjoying their tour of the places.
Office bearers of the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries said the bandh cost the local trade a loss of about Rs 300 crore.
Except some minor incidents the bandh was by and large peaceful.
