Raipur, August 11, 2010: Chhattisgarh government has pulled up the Bhilai Steel Plant officials for violating the labour rules.
Principal Secretary Labour Vivek Dhand yesterday called a meeting of the officials of the Bhilai Steel Plant and expressed the strong displeasure of the government over the non compliance of the government order, officials sources said.
When the SAIL Unit has only 6,835 regular labourers, it had more than 22,000 contract labourers, and those contractual workers safety and security was also the responsibility of the BSP, the government said.
The Government had previously issued direction that the contract labourers must be paid through the banks and the Bhilai Steel Plant has to do that without any fail, Dhand said.
Managing Director of BSP V K Arora, Executive Director P K Agrawal, General Manager R K Narula and other officials of the SAIL unit had attended the meeting.
The government had also directed the BSP to maintain records of all the contract labourers, who are engaged in the SAIL unit.
