Raipur, September 16, 2012: Main opposition Congress in Chhattisgarh today demanded reduction in tax by the state BJP government on the petroleum products.

The state government should reduce the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Ravindra Choubey told reporters here.

Replying to a question about the increase in prices by the Centre on the petro-products, Choubey said the Centre had to increase the prices due to hike in international market.

But the state BJP government should reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel to lesser the burden on the common men, he said.

“When the state government could reduce the VAT on aviation fuel, why can’t it on petrol and diesel,” he asked.
